Your past experiences are impeding on your current life, but you don’t know why
What is trauma?
Trauma is defined as a deeply distressing or disturbing experience that overwhelms our ability to cope. Traumatizing experiences can take many forms, such as physical, sexual, psychological, or emotional abuse, childhood neglect, sudden breakups or losses, accidents, natural disasters, or violence from others. We may not recognize these as traumatic events right away, but they can leave a lasting impact on our sense of security and safety, our identity, our relationships, and our ideas about what the future might hold.
Trauma can be a range of emotional, psychological, and physical effects. You may be experiencing:
Anxiety, fear, or panic
Depression and sadness
Flashbacks or intrusive memories
Anger and irritability
Intrusive thoughts or images
Difficulty concentrating and focusing
Sleep disturbances, insomnia, or nightmares
Fatigue and low energy
Difficulty trusting others or forming close relationships
Social withdrawal or isolation
Everyone experiences events differently.
If your brain perceives threat or harm and is prevented from releasing the stress after, the effects of the trauma can linger in your body long-term.
You can experience trauma in many different situations:
work or social settings
intimate relationships
childhood or family of origin
physical or sexual encounters
injuries or car accidents
Sometimes we don't even remember our traumas or believe we experienced trauma. Trauma is often hidden because we learned to mask our pain. Our trauma therapist can help you figure out why you do what you do, what happened to you, and how to cope with the stress and trauma.

Common questions about trauma therapy
-
There is no set amount of sessions for every person. Pending the depth of your trauma and experiences, how your body and you respond to therapy, time and frequency, all play a role in determining how long therapy will take.
-
At times, you will have to go back and re-experience life events, as part of trauma therapy is telling your story. Trauma therapy often times takes a few sessions before life gets better.
-
That’s ok. Often times we bury it and can’t remember parts of our past. This is the body’s way to protect yourself. You will work with your therapist to uncover past experiences that might be hindering your current life to heal and move forward.
