Common questions about teen counseling

  • We know taking the initial step can be scary. The first session is for one or both parents or additional important caregivers. We know your teen is important to you and want to take as much time as possible to address your concerns and make sure we provide the help your child needs.

  • We believe in a collaborative process and you are the most important part of a teen’s life. While your teen may meet alone with their counselor for all or part of a session, your teen’s therapist will communicate their treatment plan and work with you to provide information and skills to you as well as provide feedback. This could look like an individual parent session separate from teen sessions, or the last 10 minutes of sessions - depending on needs and treatment plan.

  • The length of your teen’s therapy depends on your child’s needs and wants. We will develop a treatment plan at the beginning that can be modified as we go based on growth and new issues. We are not able to give a definitive answer as all teens grow at their own pace.
